The question that everyone was asked this week was:

What book genre do you avoid at all costs and why?

I don't think that there are any book genres that I try to avoid 'at all costs' - I'm generally willing to try anything once! I'm often a little wary of epic fantasies or adult science fiction as it often just makes me a bit confused and goes over my head! The thought of over-the-top romance novels (including historical), cowboys and westerns make me cringe a little, too.

I'd also avoid any non-fiction books about subjects that don't interest me, but that's not to say that I'd avoid the genre completely. I'd never read a biography about a celebrity that I had no interest in, either. I'm also not all that interested in books that are strongly based on religion. I wouldn't read any self-help book unless I really had to, I guess.

It may not sound like it but I'm not really that picky about genres and I don't make an effort to avoid anything completely. Even if it's a book that fits into one of the genres I've mentioned above, if I like the sound of the blurb, I'd be willing to give the book a go!

    Ahh, see I avoid nonfiction completely. I also bascially don't like anything that doesn't have paranormal elements.

    I would choose other types of books before a lot of those too but I have read some great books in all those genres. I guess it just depends on the book. Thanks for stopping by my blog. Have a great weekend!

    that's like me. i'd give most books a try if it sounded interesting. epic fantasy is great if it was five books or less lol. can't do ten or more like the Wheel of Time stuff.

    I think that's a great stance to take. Complete avoidance probably leads to lots of great missed books. I'll try and take your advice when it comes to westerns and give them a better shot!

    I have to agree with you, if the blurb appeals then I will pick it up anyway even if it is not something I would normally read.

    I'm not a fan of epic fantasy as well. Sometimes those books just go on and on. If you are afraid to try Adult Sci-fi I would recommend Gini Koch's alien series. It is a great series and none of it went over my head, it is easy to keep up with. :)
